Description:
Perennial herbs with terete branches rarely a little woody at the base; leaves opposite, often fascicled on short side branches.
Flowers single, terminal or in the axil of leaves due to sympodial growth, bisexual, 5-merous; calyx with distinct lobes, persistent; corolla with a funnel-shaped tube, hairy inside, deciduous; stamens with filaments connate at the apex of the corolla tube; anthers without terminal appendages; ovary inferior, with 2 locules each with few ovules, with 2 almost sessile filiform stigmas.
Fruit dry, indehiscent.
