Description:
Dense often depressed shrubs 30-60 cm high; branches usually clothed with phyllodes to near the base, rarely naked up to half-way from the base; phyllodes 5-30 x 1-1.75 mm, smooth.

Flowers 4-6, on rhachises 2-7 mm long; standard c. 5 x c. 5.5 mm.

Pod rather smaller, 5.5-7 mm long and slightly rounded in outline.

Biology: No text

Taxonomic notes: In S.Aust., D. benthamii subsp. benthamii differs from subsp. humills in having the phyllodes reduced to a few short stout spines at the branchlet apices and in its long slender inflorescence rhachises and pedicels, and occurs in drier localities than does subsp. humdis, but in W.Aust. subsp. benthamii is much more variable than in S. Aust. and has forms resembling subsp. humills. These are being investigated by M.D. Crisp.
