Citation: Hill, Brit. Herb. 113 (1756).

Derivation: Greek cymbalon, a cymbal; presumed to refer to the shape of the leaves.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: None

Description:
Perennial herbs; leaves alternate, petiolate, broad, palmately veined.

Flowers solitary in leaf axils; sepals more or less equal; corolla 2-lipped, produced at the base into a rearward-directed spur, the upper lip 2-lobed, the lower lip 3-lobed, with at its base a prominent palate closing the mouth; stamens included; stigma entire.

Capsule with the 2 cells dehiscing at the apex by several fissures.

Distribution:  About 10-15 species native to the Mediterranean and to western Europe; 1 species introduced in S.Aust.
