Description:
Annuals with slender taproots and alternate palmately divided leaves.
Flowers in racemes or panicles, zygomorphic, bisexual; sepals 5, petaloid, the upper one prolonged into a conical spur; petals 2, united into a single spurred nectary, its spur being placed in the sepal spur; stamens numerous, in 5 spirally arranged series; carpel 1; ovules numerous.
Fruit a many-seeded follicle.

About 60 species in central Asia to the Mediterranean area. Consolida has been included by many in Delphinium L. as a section or subgenus.
