Citation: Standley, Contr. U.S. natn. Herb. 12:373 (1909).

Derivation: Greek kommi, gum; karpos, fruit; referring to the glandular anthocarp.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: None

Description:
Perennial herbs, erect or climbing, glabrous or hairy; leaves opposite, petiolate.

Flowers intermediate in size between Boerhavia and Mirabilis, in few-flowered umbels on simple or branched axillary peduncles; petaloid part of perianth 5-lobed, much longer than the lower part; stamens 3 or 4, attached near the base of the perianth; ovary erect and stipitate within the lower part of the perianth; style simple, with a dilated stigma; anthocarp 10-ribbed, narrowly obconical to ellipsoid.

Distribution:  25 species in warm parts of the Old World and 2 in Australia.

Taxonomic notes: Many authors have treated this as a species of Boerhavia.
