Ciclospermum

Citation: Lagasca Amen. Nat. Espagas 2:101 (1821).

Derivation: Greek kyklos, circle; sperma, seed; alluding to the shape of the mericarps.

Synonymy: Helosciadium Koch sect. Ciclospermum (Lagasca)DC., Prod. 4:105 (1830) (sect. 'Cyclospermum'); Apium L. sect. Ciclospermum (Lagasca)DC. ex H. Wolff, Pfianzenr. 90:53 (1927) (sect. 'Cyclospermum').

Description:
Slender terrestrial annuals; leaves 3-pinnatisect or several times ternate, the ultimate segments often very narrow.

Umbels compound, leaf-opposed, usually without involucral bracts; sepals inconspicuous; petals elliptic to broad-ovate, sometimes inflexed or often shortly apiculate; filaments long.

Fruit small, ovoid-globulose or subglobulose, glabrous or rarely sparsely setulose; carpophore short-bifurcate; mericarps with 5 very prominent ribs.

Distribution:  1 (or 3) species in warm regions of America; a pantropical weed. The 1 species recorded for Australia is possibly indigenous in Qld and N.S.W.; it is probably alien and naturalised in S.Aust.
