Description:
Shrubs or trees, often branching dichotomously, with slender stipular spines; leaves shortly petiolate, opposite.

Flowers subsessile, in terminal or apparently axillary umbels or cymes; corolla lobes spreading above the longer tube.

Drupes 1 or few to each inflorescence.

Distribution:  About 35 species in warm parts of the Old World and 2 in Australia.
