Taxonomic notes:
In B. nana, 3 infraspecific taxa have been recognised, viz.: var. nana with leaves glabrous and 3-foliolate; var. hyssopifolia Melville, with leaves glabrous and 1-foliolate; var. pubescens (Benth.)J.H. Willis, with leaves (plus pedicels, calyces and petals) pubescent with short coarse hairs (to 0.6 mm long) and 3-foliolate. Thorough examination of all specimens available revealed single plants with 1-and 3-foliolate leaves and a full gradient of pubescence on 3-foliolate specimens! We believe therefore, that it is impractical to distinguish any of these varieties.
