Derivation: Named in honour of the British botanist, J. Blackstone, 1712-1753.

Description:
Capsule enclosed in the persistent calyx and corolla.

Sepals scarcely connate, with 6-9 lobes; corolla shortly tubular, with 6-9 lobes; stamens 6-9, with the filaments fused to the corolla tube; anthers straight and untwisted after dehiscing; ovary bicarpellary but l-celled, with a filiform deciduous style and 2-fid stigmas.

Distribution:  5 or 6 species in Europe and the Mediterranean.
