Synonymy: Bergia ammannioides

Common name: Water-fire.

Description:
Erect or ascending annuals up to 50 cm high; stems pinkish, with capitate hairs on the younger parts and usually more or less septate hairs interspersed; leaves elliptic-oblong to oblanceolate, acute, serrate except in the basal part, with or without scattered hairs, 8-30 x 3-10 mm; flowers in dense axillary fascicles, subsessile or on pedicels up to 3 mm long; sepals 5, linear to linear-lanceolate, acuminate-attenuate, with scarious margins, ciliolate, 2-3 x 0.4-0.5 mm; petals 5, oblong, acute, glabrous, white, slightly shorter than the sepals; stamens 5, c. 1 mm long; filaments subulate; anthers pale-yellow, c. 0.3 mm long; ovary subglobose; stigmas 5, reddish.

Capsule subglobose, c. 1 mm long; seeds smooth or faintly marked, shiny, brown to black, c. 0.3 mm long.

Distribution:  Grows in seasonally wet areas. Recorded from S.Aust. by Verdon (1981) but I have seen no specimen.

S.Aust.: LE.   W.Aust.; N.T.; Qld; N.S.W.; Vic.   Africa; Asia.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: mainly spring.
