Description:
Polygamous shrubs or trees; leaves usually pinnate.
Flowers mostly bisexual, in terminal panicles; sepals 5, free, deciduous, imbricate; petals 5, each with a pilose appendage at the base; disk annular, stamens 8, filaments pubescent; ovary 2-celled, 1 ovule per cell; style thick, subulate, 1-2 mm long, undivided.
Fruit separating septicidally into 3 1-seeded samaras; seeds ellipsoid or lenticular; aril absent.
