Description:
Annual hairy herbs with palmate leaves; stipules large, connate.
Flowers to 2.5 mm long, green, in dense sessile clusters opposite the leaves; epicalyx (outer whorl of sepals) of 4 small sepals; inner calyx of 4 larger sepals; petals 0; stamens 1 or 2, inserted on a disk; carpels 1 or 2, forming a superior ovary, enclosed in a cup-shaped receptacular tube, each with 1 erect ovule and a basal style with a capitate stigma.
Fruit dry, small, enclosed in the receptacular tube.
