Common name: Desert oak, desert sheoak.
Description:
Dioecious tree 10-15 m high, with very long drooping branchlets at maturity; articles terete, smooth, 1-6 cm long, 0.8-1.5 mm diam.; phyllichnia with a broad shallow central depression; teeth-4, pale, erect, almost pungent, 2-5 mm long.
Male spikes 2-4 cm long, dense, c. 10 whorls per cm; bracteoles persistent (?); anthers yellow, c. 0.7-0.8 mm long; cone sessile or on a peduncle to 15 mm long, cylindrical, 3-8 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm diam.
Fruiting bracteoles acute, more or less rugose, with a broad thick rugose acute dorsal protuberance as long as the bracteole.
