Description:
Perennial herbs with prostrate or erect stems and alternate leaves.
Flowers small, bisexual or dioecious, in terminal panicles of dense spikes; bracts and bracteoles approaching the flowers in size; perianth-segments 5, more or less acute, scarious, white; stamens 5, united in a short cup at the base, alternating with subulate or oblong staminode-like structures; anthers 2-celled; style slender, 2-fid, the branches filiform.
