Description:
Stems usually 20-50 cm high, lacking stolons; leaves narrowly obovate to oblanceolate, with usually more than 4 pairs of leaflets, usually 8-15 cm long (including the petiole) glabrous or sparsely appressed-pilose above, densely and evenly appressed-pilose below.
Flowers in interrupted spikes; sepals 5, 1.5-2.5 mm long; stamens dark-purple.
Fruit ovoid, glabrous or pubescent; spines all more or less equal, slender, glabrous, usually 30-40, usually 1-2 mm long, barbed at the tip.
