Description:
Glabrous perennials or annuals with decumbent or prostrate branches and opposite exstipulate petiolate leaves.
Flowers clustered in the axils of leaves; perianth with membranous margins, partly connate, imbricate; stamens c. 10-12, arising from the perianth; ovary superior, 2-celled, with 2 styles, with 2 ovules in each cell.
Capsule truncate, splitting septicidally into 2 hard carpels and also circumsciss.
