Description:
Perennial tufted herbs with a fleshy rootstock; typically upper parts glabrous, lower parts more or less hirsute; stems 10-90 cm long, branching below the inflorescence; leaves alternate or sometimes the lowermost opposite, 5-60 mm long, 1-9 mm wide, obovate or oblanceolate, becoming linear up the stem, .margins flat or sometimes undulate.

inflorescence a terminal cyme; receptacle 1-3 mm long, hemispherical or sometimes obconical; sepals 5, 1-4 mm long, narrowly triangular, acute; corolla blue, campanulate; tube 4-6.5 mm long, cylindrical, often rather swollen in appearance; lobes 5, 6-10 mm long, less than twice as long as the tube, elliptical; stamens 5; filaments c. 1.5 mm long, rhombic, with or without protuberant shoulders; anthers c. 4 mm long; ovary 3- or sometimes 2-celled; style 5-8.5 mm long, 3- or sometimes 2-fid, uncontracted, with 2-4 glands below each stigmatic cleft.

Capsule 1.5-5 mm long, hemispherical or sometimes obconical.

Distribution:  An uncommon species found in open sites in a variety of vegetation types.

S.Aust.: NW, LE, EP.   W.Aust.; N.T.; Qld; N.S.W.

Conservation status: native

Taxonomic notes: Holotype: Grosvenor near Clermont, Qld, R.C. Carolin 608, 19.viii. 1958, (NSW). Isotype: SYD. Herbae caespitosae perennes eaudice succulento, typice partibus superis glabrae et infernis plusminusve hirsutae; caules 10-90 cm longi, ramosi infra inflorescentiam; rolla alterna vel interalum infima opposita, 5-60 mm longa, 1-9 mm lata, ovata vel oblanceolata, lineariascentia secus caules, marginibus planis vel interdum undulata; inflorescentia cyma terminalis; receptaculum 1-3 mm longum, hemisphaericum vel interdum obconicum; sepala 5, 1-4 mm longa, anguste triangularia, acura; corolla caerulea, campanulata, tubo 4-6.5 mm longo, cylindrico, saepe aspecru tumido, lobis 5, 6-10 mm longis, brevioribus quam 2plo tubo, ellipticus; stamina 5, filis c. 1.5 mm longis, rhombeis, cum vel sine humeris protuberantibus, antheris c. 4 mm longis; ovarium 3-1ocularurn vel interalum 2-loculatum, stylo 5-8.5 mm longo, 3- vel interalum 2-fido, non contracto, glandibus 2-4 infra ilssuram stigmaticam; capsula 1.5-5 mm longa, hemisphaerica vel interdum obconica. The ephithet refers to the State where the species was first recognised. It was identified as a separate species by R. C. Carolin but the name has not been published.
