Description:
Tufted annuals or short-lived perennials; leaf blade flat; ligule of hairs.
Inflorescence a spike-like panicle; spikelets with 1 sterile floret and 1 upper fertile, sessile, in few-flowered spikes falling with the internode of the rhachis above; first glume truncate, thin, the second more attenuate and longer; first lemma acuminate and longer than the glumes; second lemma shorter than the first, with a similar but smaller palea.
