Leaf sheaths very minutely pubescent.

Spikelets 4-7-flowered; glumes rarely more than half as long as the spikelets; lemmas closely imbricate at first, later free of one another and divaricate, the central nerve not continued as an awn; palea pubescent between the nerves.
