Citation: Nees, in Lehm., Nov. Stirp. Pugill. 8:50 (1844).

Derivation: Latin tres, three; costula, a little rib; referring to the 3-ribbed nut.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Description:
Perennial herbs with a short rhizome; stems tufted, erect, terete; leaves basal but sometimes with 1 or 2 along the stem, often reduced to sheaths.

Inflorescence a spike or paniculate; spikelets l-3-flowered, the upper one fertile, 2-4 outer glumes empty; glumes more or less distichous; stamens 3; style slender, deciduous, 3-branched; hypogynous bristles 6 or fewer, slender.

Nut sessile, trigonous.

Distribution:  About 5 species in Australia and South East Asia.
