Description:
Stems sturdy, to 1 m high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tardily loose, glabrous to hirsute; ligule truncate, 0.5-1 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 35 cm long, 2-4 mm wide, glabrous to hirsute.
Panicle 20-35 cm long, sparse to dense, contracted, 2.5-5 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, acuminate, puberulent; lower glume 15-23 mm long; upper glume 12-19 mm long; floret elliptic, 7-12 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma smooth to granular, with appressed yellow hairs to the apex; coma 1-3 mm long; callus 1.5-2.5 mm long, straight, sharp; awn 4.5-7 cm long, twice bent; column 2-2.5 cm long, villous.
