Description:
Stems to 80cm high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tightly rolled, densely hirsute to glabrous upwards; ligule truncate, 0.2-0.5 mm long; auricles hirsute: blades to 25 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, hirsute.
Panicle sparse, 15-30 cm long, spreading, 1.5-3 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, inflated at the middle, acuminate to acute; lower glume 8-14 mm long: upper glume 6-12 mm long; floret turbinate to cylindrical, 4-6 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma dark-brown, smooth, with appressed rust-coloured hairs, but the upper c. 0.5 mm scabrous with short erect hairs; coma 0.4-0.7 mm long; callus 0.7-1.5 mm long, curved, sharp: awn 2.5-6.5 cm long, twice bent; column 1.5-2 cm long, scabrous.
