Description:
Rhizomatous; stems to 60 cm high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tardily loose, glabrous; ligule broad-acute or truncate, 0.5-2.5 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 35 cm long, 2-3 mm wide, glabrous to pubescent.
Panicle sparse, 15-20 cm long, contracted or spreading, 1.5-4 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes slightly gaping, acuminate; lower glume 18-23 mm long; upper glume 12-15 mm long; floret narrow-cylindrical, 7.5-8.5 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma surface pale-brown, granular to almost smooth, with appressed orange hairs, but the upper c. 1 mm scabrous with erect orange hairs; coma 0.5-0.8 mm long; callus 2-3 mm long, straight or slightly curved, sharp; awn 7-11 cm long, twice bent; column 2-2.6 cm long, pubescent to villous; bristle villous, often gently curved.
