Description:
Rhizomatous; stems to 1 m high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tightly rolled, glabrous; ligule truncate, 0.1-1 mm long; blades to 50 cm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, glabrous or scabrous.
Panicle to 25 cm long, sparse, contracted, c. 1 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, acute to acuminate; lower glume 11-15mm long; upper glume 11-13mm long; floret elliptic, 7-9 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma pale-brown, smooth to granular, with appressed orange hairs to the apex; lobes 1.5-2.5 mm long, with orange hairs; coma c. 2.5 mm long; callus 1-1.5 mm long, straight and sharp; awn 4-5.5 cm long, twice bent; column 2-2.5 cm long, scabrous.
