Description:
Rhizomatous; stems to 1 m high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tightly rolled, pubescent to glabrous upwards; ligule obtuse or truncate, 0.5-2 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 20 cm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, glabrous to scaberulous.
Panicle 10-25 cm long, sparse, spreading, 2-4 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, inflated at the middle, acuminate or acute; lower glume 11-17 mm long; upper glume 10-15 mm long; floret cylindrical, 7-9 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma red-brown, with translucent tubercles, with erect yellow hairs only on the nerves and the lower half; callus straight and sharp, 2-3 mm long; awn 5.5-7 cm long, twice bent; column 1.8-2.5 cm long, pubescent.
