Description:
Stems to 1 m high; nodes glabrous; sheaths tardily inflated, glabrous to scaberulous; ligule truncate, 0.5-2 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 30 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, scaberulous.
Panicle 15-50 cm long, usually sparse, usually spreading, 1-7 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping slightly, acute to acuminate; lower glume 10-15 mm long; upper glume 7-14 mm long; floret elliptic, 4-7 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma pale-brown, smooth to granular, with appressed white hairs to the apex; coma obscure, 0.4-1 mm long; callus 1-3.5 mm long, straight and sharp; awn 4.5-10 cm long, falcate; column 7-15 mm long, scaberulous to scabrous.
