Description:
Stems delicate, to 60 cm high; nodes pubescent to almost glabrous; sheaths tightly rolled, glabrous to puberulent; ligule truncate, 0.3-3 mm long, auricles usually hirsute; blades to 15 (rarely to 30) cm long, to 1 mm diam. (rolled).
Panicle sparse, to 12 cm long, contracted, to 3 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, acuminate; lower glume 12-17 mm long; upper glume 8-14 mm long; floret turbinate to elliptic, 6.5-8 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma red-brown, granular, with a few appressed white to fulvous hairs, sparser at the apex; coma obscure, 0.5-1.5 mm long; callus 2.2-3 mm long, straight and sharp; awn 5-6 cm long, twice bent; column 2.2-3 cm long, pubescent to villous.
