Description:
Rhizomatous; stems rigid, to 1 m high; nodes pubescent; sheaths inflated, scaberu1ous, pubescent or almost glabrous; ligule truncate, 0.2-0.7 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 60 cm long, to 8 mm wide, scaberulous to glabrous.
Panicle dense, to 40 cm long, contracted, to 6 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, acuminate, pubescent to glabrous; lower glume 8.5-10 mm long; upper glume 6.5-9 mm long; floret cylindrical, 4.5-6 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma pale-brown, granular, with erect white to yellow hairs to the apex; coma 0.2-0.8 mm long; callus 0.5-1.2 mm long, curved and sharp; awn 25-40 mm long, twice bent, densely pubescent.
