Description:
Stems usually rigid, to 1 m high; nodes pubescent, rarely glabrous; sheaths tightly rolled, pubescent to glabrous; ligule truncate, 0.3-3 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 30 cm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, glabrous.
Panicle dense, 10-30 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, acuminate; lower glume 16-20mm long: upper glume 15-20 mm long; floret elliptic, 7.5-9 mm long (excluding the awn): lemma red-brown, granular, with appressed white to yellow hairs to the apex; callus 1.5-3 mm long, straight and sharp; awn 6-10 cm long, twice bent; column 2-3.5 cm long, plumose; bristles plumose at the base.
