Description:
Stems to 45 cm high; nodes usually concealed, glabrous to puberulent; sheaths loose, woolly to glabrous upwards; ligule truncate, 0.4-1.5 mm long; auricles woolly; blades to 20 cm long, 1.5-4 mm wide, woolly or pubescent to glabrous upwards.
Panicle 10-15 cm long, contracted, 1.5-3 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes closed, acuminate, glabrous; lower glume 19-26 mm long; upper glume 14-19mm long; floret turbinate, 6.5-8 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma darkbrown, smooth, glabrous; margins not fully covering the palea; coma obscure, c. 1.5 mm long; callus curved and sharp; awn 6.5-8 cm long, twice bent; column 2.2-3 cm long, pubescent.
