Description:
Stems delicate, to 60 cm high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tightly rolled, pubescent to hirsute; ligule obtuse, 0.5-2.5 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 25 cm long, very fine, less than 0.5 mm diam. (rolled), pubescent to hirsute.
Panicle to 20 cm long, narrowly spreading, to 3 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes narrowly gaping; lower glumes 8-10 (rarely to 12) mm long, acuminate; upper glume 7-8 mm long, acute or dentate; floret cylindrical to elliptic, 4.5-5.5 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma black, granular, with erect while to yellow hairs to the apex; coma obscure, 0.6-0.8 mm long; callus 1-1.5 mm long, straight and sharp; awn 3.5-5.5 (rarely to 6) cm long, twice bent; column 1.5-2.1 cm long, scaberulous.
