Taxonomic notes: S. halmaturinum var. halmaturinum and S. coactilifolium have been confused in the past. However, the leaf indumentum appears to be characteristic in each case, both are stellate-pubescent, but that of the latter taxon is dense enough to obscure the leaf surface and is fairly short and fine, while that of the former taxon is not dense enough to obscure the leaf surface entirely and is longer and coarser.
