Description:
Biennial or annual; stem to 2cm diam. at the base; leaves more or less coriaceous, pinnatifid to pinnatipartite.

Achenes scabrous on the margins and sometimes also on the ribs.

Distribution:  Weed of disturbed ground and cultivation.   All States.   Native to the northern temperate zone. Flowering time: Oct. — Dec.

Biology: Most S.Aust. collections of S. asper appear referrable to this subspecies; however, it is variable in size and leaf shape, and material lacking the base of the plant may be impossible to determine to subspecies.
