Synonymy: S. glaucescens Jordan, Obs. Pl. Crit. 5:75 (1847); S. nymanii Tineo & Guss. in Guss., Fl. Siculae Syn. 2:860 (1844); S. asper (L.) Hill subsp. nymanii (Tineo & Guss.) Hegi, Ill. Fl. Mitt.-Eur. 6, 2:1110 (1929).

Common name: None

Description:
Biennial or annual; stem to 2cm diam. at the base; leaves more or less coriaceous, pinnatifid to pinnatipartite.

Achenes scabrous on the margins and sometimes also on the ribs.

Distribution:  Weed of disturbed ground and cultivation.

  All States.   Native to the northern temperate zone.

Flowering time: Oct. — Dec.

Biology: Most S.Aust. collections of S. asper appear referrable to this subspecies; however, it is variable in size and leaf shape, and material lacking the base of the plant may be impossible to determine to subspecies.
