Electronic Flora of South Australia infraspecific Fact Sheet

Family: Asteraceae
Senecio odoratus var. obtusifolius

Citation: J. Black, Trans. R. Soc. S. Aust. 36:24, pl. 3 (1912).

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: None

Description:
Shrub, to 60 cm high; leaves coriaceous and fleshy, generally held at an angle of greater than 45º to the stem, broadly ovate, 3-9 x 2-5.5 cm, not more than twice as long as broad, obtuse; margins recurved and shortly toothed, narrowed and shortly stem-clasping, glaucous with conspicuous reticulate venation raised on the abaxial surface.

Inflorescence very dense, corymbose.

Flowering time: Oct. — Jan.

Biology: No text

Taxonomic notes: Black's determination of material from Robe (1915, Trans. R.Soc. S. Ausl. 39) as his S. odoratus var. obtusifolius extended the leaf shape of this variety from not greater than twice as long as broad to almost 3 times longer than broad. The addition thereby encompasses as var. obtusifolius a diversity of specimens from throughout the range of vat. odoratus in S. Aust. and Vic. The later addition should be excluded from var. obtusifolius sensu J. Black (1912).
