Citation: Sol. ex R. Br., Prod. Fl. Nov. Holl. 451 (1810).

Derivation: Named in honour of the Dutch naturalist, A. Seba, 1665-1736.

Description:
Annual herbs without a basal rosette and with erect little-branched inflorescences; leaves sessile, scarcely connate in pairs.

Sepals scarcely connate, with 4 or 5 lobes; corolla tubular, with 4 or 5 lobes; stamens 4 or 5, with the filaments fused to much of the corolla tube; anthers with a terminal stalked gland, straight and untwisted; ovary bicarpellary, 2-celled, with filiform deciduous styles terminating in 2 stigmas.

Capsule enclosed by the persistent calyx and corolla.

Distribution:  About 100 species from Africa, Madagascar, India, Australia and New Zealand.
