Common name: Bog-rush.

Description:
Rhizome very short; stems densely tufted, filiform, 15-40 cm long, 1-noded; basal leaves capillary, 6-18 cm long, stem leaf to 5 cm long.

Inflorescence 1.5-2 cm long, composed of 2 rather distant clusters, with bracts rather coarser than the leaves and 1-4 cm long; spikelets shortly and unequally pedicellate, 1-3 in each cluster, linear-lanceolate, 2-flowered, c. 6 mm long, blackish; glumes glabrous, 2 lowest empty; hypogynous bristles none or minute.

Nut obovoid, acute, long-cuneate to the wide short base, 1-1.2 x c. 0.7 mm, trigonous, angles distinctly ribbed from the base to the tip, sides convex, white, smooth, rather dull, about a third of the length of the glume.
