Description:
Tiny tufted annual; stems to c. 1 cm high, frequently obsolete, always hidden by the leaves; leaves numerous, flat, firm, 1-4 cm long, glabrous; bracts similar, with rather glume-like bases, 1 to each spikelet and much exceeding it.
Spikelet usually 1 only, though sometimes there is a second one a short distance below, erect, lanceolate, pallid, 2- or 3-flowered, 6-8 mm long; glumes glabrous, the lowest fertile; bristles 0.
Nut obovoid, acute, 1ong-cuneate, c. 1.5 ~ 0.8 mm, obtusely 3angled, ribbed or not, sides convex, pallid and spotted with black to quite blackish, smooth or minutely rugulose, about a fifth of the length of the glume.
