Description:
Slender shrub, stems 30-60 (sometimes to 100) cm long, clothed with soft long or short somewhat spreading rough hairs; leaves pedicellate, terete, 5-10 (rarely to 13) mm long, obtuse, mostly crowded at the ends of the branchlets, !-furrowed by the involute margins, upper surface glabrous and hidden by the lower, smooth to tuberculate, villous to scabrous with white appressed antrorse hairs; stipules narrow-lanceolate, 1-2 mm long, acuminate, brown, leathery, sometimes costate, margins hyaline or ciliate.

Flowers sessile or subsessile, 7-10 mm long, 1 or 2 to several, terminal on short branchlets, later proliferous with the pod(s) appearing lateral; bracts ovate, 2-lobed, c. 1 mm long, 2-costate, brown, margins scarious, persistent; bracteoles attached at the base of the calyx tube, linear-subulate to terete, c. 4 mm long, exceeding the tube, brown, villous; calyx c. 7 mm long, straw-coloured, villous, the upper 2 teeth ovate-acute, lower lanceolate-acuminate to subulate, about as long as the tube; standard suborbicular, hardly notched, less than twice as long as the calyx, yellow or only red on the back when it has a yellowish-green blotch centrally, suddenly contracted into the claw; wings shorter, narrow-obovate, auriculate above the slender claw; keel semicircular in outline, obtuse, shortest, red or crimson, distinctly auriculate above the slender claw.

Pod ovate, slightly exceeding the calyx; ovary villous; slightly exceeding the calyx, brown, villous, sutures costate; seed reniform to cordate, c. 1.5 mm long, dark-brown to black.
