Description:
Much branched rigid shrub, the young branches terete, pubescent; leaves sessile on wrinkled nodes, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, 6-15 mm long, very rigid, spreading, tapering into a pungent point, flattish with slightly involute margins, concave or tending to be conduplicate, glabrous or rarely pubescent on the margins, sometimes obliquely pinnately veined beneath, sometimes pubescent at the attachment; stipules lanceolate, 2-4 mm long, free, acuminate to pungent-pointed, midrib and margins pubescent or margins ciliate.

Flowers solitary, axillary or few in small terminal leafy clusters, 8-10 mm long on pubescent peduncles 3-7 mm long and shorter than the leaves; bracts absent; bracteoles at the base of the calyx, lanceolate, midrib ending in a subulate or pungent point, 3-4 mm long, glabrous or pubescent, the scarious margins sometimes expanded into pointed stipels; calyx 5-7 mm long, straw-coloured, often tinted red, membranous, almost glabrous except for the ciliate subulate to pungent-pointed teeth which are about as long as the tube, with the upper 2 united higher up, not falcate; standard elliptic, slightly notched, almost as wide as long, yellow and red, suddenly contracted into a claw; wings oblong-obovate, yellow, auriculate above the claw; keel about as long as the wings, crescent-shaped, the obtuse tip reddish or purple; ovary and base of style villous.

Pod ovoid-oblong, 4-6 mm long, brown, turning black, pubescent, 2-seeded; seed cordate 2-3 mm long, brown, dull.
