Description:
Perennial or annual herb with rigid stems to 0.5 m, sometimes to 1 m high, leaves to 5 x 0.8 cm.

Spikes hemispherical or globose (then looking starlike) to ovoid, rarely cylindrical, 1-5.5 cm long and to 3 cm diam., but mostly broader than long, up to 30-flowered; perianth to c. 15 mm long. Plants growing in dry conditions may become less than 10 cm tall.

Distribution:    All mainland States except Vic.

Flowering time: most of the year, mainly April — Nov.
