Prasophyllum fuscum var. validum

Citation: J. Weber & Bates in J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 431 (1978).

Synonymy: P. validum R. Rogers, Trans. R. Soc. S. Aust. 51:7 (1927).

Common name: Graceful leek-orchid.

Description:
A slender to robust plant to 80 cm high; leaf shorter than the inflorescence or withered at flowering.

Flowers c. 30, green-yellowish, large, sessile, subtended by a small narrow acute depressed bracteole; dorsal sepal ovate, 8-12 x c. 4.5 mm; lateral sepals arched, connate for half or their length in old flowers; petals incurved, narrower and shorter than the sepals; labellum oblong-ovate, c. 4 x 7-8 mm, on a short or well-marked claw, not acutely or abruptly reflexed; erect part with entire margins; reflexed part narrow-triangular with a sharp point, membranous part with slightly undulate and crenulate margins, white, callus plate conspicuous, triangular from the base, elevated, ending abruptly in front of the bend toward the apex.

Distribution:  Occurs in small groups in rich loams amid rocks under open forest and usually associated with Triodia irritans.

Flowering time: Nov. — Dec.

Biology: Plants in cultivation flower when quite small and are almost indistinguishable from green-flowered plants of P. fuscum var. fuscum from the Adelaide hills.
