Description:
Prostrate herb, sometimes densely branched and rounded, branchlets with spreading hairs to 1 mm and shorter curved hairs; leaves broadly obovate or oblong, obtuse or retuse, 5-18 mm long, 3-9 mm wide, with long spreading hairs towards the margins.

Flowers in short axillary racemes, c. 3.5 mm long, sepals with long spreading hairs; outer sepals 1-1.5 mm long; petals purple or purple and yellow; lateral petals obovate, about as long as the keel, with hairs at the base of the staminal tube; keel with 4-6 repeatedly forked appendages; staminal filaments free m the upper third; ovary oblong, emarginate; style curved, hooked at the end.

Capsule somewhat asymmetric, with a narrow ciliate wing, notched at the apex; seeds black, obovoid, c. 3.5 mm long, pilose.

Distribution:  Restricted to central Australia, widespread but rare on gravelly or shallow soils on hills, sometimes on sandy soil in hummock grassland.   W.Aust.; N.T.; Qld. Conservation status: native Flowering time: Mainly March — Oct.
