Description:
Shrub to 1.2 m high; stems erect, terete, scabrous-pubescent and glandular, woody; leaves obovate, narrowed at the base, obtuse, 1-3 cm long, 4-15 mm wide, denticulate, pubescent and glandular to subglabrous.
Capitula numerous in dense leafless cymes on leafy branchlets forming a loose panicle; involucres ovoid; bracts 4-5-seriate, ovate to lanceolate, 2-6 mm long, the outer ones pubescent and glandular, the inner ones glabrous and mostly scarious, purple-tinted; female florets 25-40; corollas 3-toothed, pink.
Achenes c. 0.8 mm long, sparsely pubescent, brown; pappus bristles 7-15, c. 3 mm long, microscopically barbellate; disk florets 3-6, exceeding the female florets; corollas 4-toothed, pink; style deeply divided.
