Derivation: Greek pleura, side; soros, a heap; alluding to the position of the sori along the sides of the veins.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Description:
Small terrestrial ferns with a short scaly rhizome; fronds pinnate to subbipinnate, covered with glandular or eglandular hairs; veins free, forked; sori elongate, exindusiate.

Distribution:  South America, Europe, Africa and Australasia; about 5 species, 2 in Australia.
