Citation: Bunge, in Lehm., PI. Preiss. 1:285 (1845).

Derivation: Greek platys, compressed, broad; sakos, shield; alluding to the broad flat fruit.

Synonymy: Siebera Reichb., Consp. 145 (1828), nom. illegit., non J. Gay; Trachymene sensu DC., Coll. mém. 5:28 (1829), non Rudge. Endemic to Australia, about 25 species.

Description:
Woody perennial or subshrubs; stems branched, leafless, terete, angular or flattened, or leafy; leaves narrow-linear, lanceolate, oblong, ovate, to almost orbicular, very hard, entire, dentate or lobed.

Umbels mostly compound, rarely simple, terminal and axillary, mostly pedunculate; bracts of involucre and bracteoles of involucel small, subulate, sometimes caducous; sepals absent or minute; petals white, at first inflexed, later spreading, valvate to slightly imbricate.

Fruit more or less laterally compressed, with 2 hardened, pungent styles; carpophore undivided, persistent; mericarps usually rough-tuberculate, narrowed at the commissure; dorsal rib prominent or winged; vittae absent.
