Description:
Annual herbs with all leaves in a basal rosette, with a pronounced tap root; leaves sessile, linear, 20-80 x 1-2 mm, obtuse, usually entire, thick, with 1 often indistinct main vein, sparsely covered with short spreading hairs.
Spikes irregularly cylindrical with lower flowers subdistant, 4-35 mm long; peduncle 10-70 mm long, usually shorter than the leaves, terete, often arched up, densely covered with long antrorse hairs, with lower flowers at the level of or lower than the leaf apices; bracts ovate, about half the length of the sepals, herbaceous with a membranous margin; sepals oblong-ovate, c. 3 mm long, equal, glabrous, with a broad herbaceous ridge; corolla tube c. 2.5 mm long; lobes linear-triangular, c. 1 mm long; anthers broadly oblong; ovary 2-celled with 2 ovules in each.
Capsule ellipsoidal, 3-4 mm long, with a rounded top, dark-brown; seeds 4, elliptic, 2.5-3 mm long, granular.
