Description:
Stems 20-50 cm high, pubescent or almost glabrous at the base; nodes pubescent; leaves mostly basal, 1.6-8 cm long, 2-3.2 mm broad, rigid, flat or subulate-channelled, glabrous or the lower ones sparsely hairy.
Raceme oblong or ovoid-oblong, 2-2.5 cm long, silvery; spikelets bearded at the base; glumes villous-ciliate on the intramarginal nerves, acuminate with long points, the first flat, green, glabrous and prominently 3-5-nerved on the back, 7-9 mm long, the second 7-1 1-nerved, sparsely pubescent on the back, 9-11 mm long; first lemma also herbaceous, c. 7 mm long, obtuse, 5-7-nerved, pubescent in the upper part, sometimes with a small palea and male floret, second (fertile) lemma c. 6 mm long, glabrous or silky-ciliate on the margin.
