Myrsiphyllum asparagoides

Citation: Willd., Neue Schr. Ges. naturfFreund. Berl. 2:25 (1808).

Synonymy: Medeola asparagoides L., Sp. Pl. 339 (1753); Dracaena medeoloides L.f., Suppl. 203 (1782); Asparagus asparagoides (L.) Wight, Cent. Dict. 2:845 (1909); A. medeoloides (L.f.) Thunb., Prod. Pl. Cap. 66 (1794).

Common name: Bridle creeper, smilax asparagus.

Description:
Tall climber often 1-2 m; roots bearing tubers; cladodes solitary, ovate, acute, glossy, green, 2-3 cm long, with many longitudinal nerves.

Flowers single or twin, bisexual, greenish-white, on peduncles jointed near the summit, drooping.

Berry 7-10 mm diam., finally dark-red.

Distribution:    W.Aust.; N.S.W.; Vic.   Native to South Africa.

Conservation status: naturalised

Flowering time: Aug. — Sept.
