Derivation: Greek myrios, very many; kephale head; referring to the numerous capitula in the compound heads.

Description:
Annual herbs with cobwebby non-glandular hairs; stems terete; leaves cauline, sessile, entire, alternate.
Inflorescence a terminal compound head of numerous capitula aggregated on a flat common receptacle, ovoid to biconvex; common involucre well-developed, multiseriate, of hyaline to scarious bracts often with conspicuous white laminae; capitula minute, homogamous, each subtended by a scarious-hyaline bract; capitular involucral bracts 2-5, equal or subequal, hyaline; florets 1-5 per capitulum, tubular, bisexual, 3-5-merous; corolla narrowly funnel-shaped, with acute equal lobes, yellow; anthers tailed at the base, with subulate apical appendages; style branches flattened, truncate with tufts of sweeping hairs or with dilated papillose apices.
Achenes subterete, smooth; pappus uniseriate, of plumose or simple bristles, a hyaline scale, or absent.

About 10 species in Australia; the genus is in need of revision, and apparently comprises 2 or 3 natural groups which are not closely related.
