Common name: Bauhinia.
Description:
Tree, glabrous or nearly so; leaves ovate in outline; leaflets 2, oblique, 2-3 cm long, 3-5-nerved.
Flowers in short racemes: calyx densely pubescent with pale hairs; petals silky outside; filaments, anthers and style long exserted.
Pod to 10 x 3 cm, compressed, oblong or slightly curved, coriaceous, 2-valved, on a stipe to 1 cm long; seeds c. 1.5 x 1 cm, flattened, shining, separated by pithy partitions.

Taxonomic notes:
K. & S.S. Larsen (1983), Bot. Helv. 93:215, treat the S.Aust. taxon as Bauhinia cunninghamii (Benth.) Benth., FI. Aust 2:295 (1864) subsp. cunninghamii (=Phanera cunninghamii Benth., Pl. Jungh. 1(1852)264). They also add W.Aust. to its distribution.
